Avalon is happy to announce the return of our European river cruises. Many countries in Europe and around the world have opened their borders to international travelers this year, and the list is growing weekly.

Given these openings, below is our planned start date with a limited roll-out of select cruises per river:

  • Rhine - August 7
  • Danube - August 10
  • Rhône - August 31
  • Moselle - September 10

2021 Cruises in Operation

Due to the prior COVID-related circumstances and restrictions, Avalon Waterways has suspended select cruises through December 31, 2021 and some others have slightly altered itineraries. Guests impacted by European sailings that have been suspended are being contacted by their Travel Advisor or by Avalon Waterways with options for rebooking.

Easy Guide for Travel & Entry Requirements

With international travel resuming, we’ve provided an easy tool to allow you to check the latest requirements and provisions for your travel plans. For specific entry requirements to your chosen destination, simply click on your arrival country under "Where to?" and enter your travel dates.

Planning and Booking with Flexibility

Avalon Waterways continues our program designed to give our travelers flexibility when considering their travel plans.

Through this program, Avalon is allowing guests with bookings on any suspended travel dates to move dates easily and without incurring cancellation fees, land or airline penalties*.

You are free to move your booking on any suspended cruise to any Globus family of brands (Globus, Cosmos, Monograms or Avalon Waterways) vacation for any destination. If you are not ready to choose your new vacation, the full value paid to us will be provided via a Letter of Credit, redeemable for any future departure through 2022, and is transferrable.

To make the transition easier, this program includes an additional bonus credit. This bonus credit of up to $200 per person will be in addition to your Letter of Credit, redeemable for any future travel through 2022:

  • Bonus credit of $200 for Avalon Waterways
  • Bonus credit of $100 for Globus
  • Bonus credit of $50 for Cosmos, Escapes by Globus & Monograms

To decline this offer and cancel, those with departures through August 1 through December 31, 2021 must advise us by August 31, 2021**.

And for added flexibility for future travel plans, we’re also offering a Peace of Mind Travel Plan, allowing you to move your 2021 or 2022 booking to any other date, departure or brand up until your final payment date. Click here for details.

*Peace of Mind Travel Plan offer valid for departures August 1 through December 31, 2021. Refund in the form of a Letter of Credit, redeemable for travel departing by December 31, 2022. The new booking bonus will be in addition to the Letter of Credit amount. Letters of Credit not redeemable for cash and bonus amount not transferrable. Only one booking bonus per person can be applied per reservation. Suspended departures August 1 through December 31, 2021 may retain past promotional offers if rebooked by August 31, 2021. Changes in airfare may apply, and the new booking is subject to any increase in vacation price for 2021 and 2022 travel. Offer may be withdrawn at any time and other restrictions may apply.

**Cancellation refund for ongoing suspended 2021 departures follow our trip cancellation procedure, including refund of monies paid to the Globus family of brands equal to the amount paid on your original booking. Note that air penalties may apply. Departures August 1 through December 31, 2021 must be advised by August 31, 2021 to receive a refund. Refunds may take up to 6 weeks for processing.

When it comes to showing you the world, our mission is to provide you with an exceptional and engaging river cruise experience. Occasionally, Mother Nature has other ideas and may present us with unexpected high or low water conditions. While we cannot predict water levels, we can assure you that all of us at Avalon Waterways-on board, on shore, and behind the scenes-are dedicated to providing the best possible vacation experience-no matter what Mother Nature throws our way.

Our seasoned global team works proactively to manage and communicate any necessary itinerary changes with you. We are always ready with thoughtfully planned alternatives and modifications to minimize delay or disruption-which may include changes in embarkation and/or disembarkation locations, utilizing other Avalon Suite Ships available in the area, providing alternative sightseeing, or offering hotel accommodations. Every modification we make is with your comfort and convenience in mind.

And while we’ll always do our best to anticipate and plan ahead, there can be a rare occasion when river conditions require us to update plans close-in to departure, or even make adjustments during the cruise. Even in those situations, our goal is to provide a complete vacation experience and rely on our experience to help you navigate around any affected areas.

In any case if we deem that weather or river conditions stand in the way of a true Avalon cruise experience, we’ll offer alternatives that will ensure you’ll ultimately experience an amazing cruise, even if it means moving to a new date. We will also give the opportunity to cancel, without penalty, when there is a high level of certainty a sailing will have major disruptions and we can’t find an alternative cruise or date to suit you.

Planning and booking your cruise should be exciting, not stressful. We want you to focus on your dream cruise, not lie awake worried about potential “what if’s” of travel. Avalon gets that, which is why we offer the ability to cancel for any reason at all, up to the day of departure, included when you purchase our Travel Protection.
